hi, reader. i think there's only one. anyways, i've been here for 3 weeks now and my learning curve for living alone has more or less turned into an exponential curve. No idea what i'm saying? oh too bad. Anyways, as u already know i have to cook my own meals, its not my first time cooking, but its the first time i've ever had so much freedom to cook what i feel like cooking. Its a good thing, because i know now i can be a chef. I've been cooking for myself, hence it gets pretty depressing, that no one ever gets to try my food. So, i've decided to share them with you! and you! Here's the recipies of some of the stuff i came up with, just like that! amazing huh? i know. oh and all are tried and tested, by yours truly. But if u die from something, ain't my fault. enjoy!!

Recipes for the overseas student, me.

Baked Salmon with Cheese

INGREDIENTS

1 Salmon Fillet with Skin on ( 200g – 300g)
½ Large Onion
5 Slices of Chadder Cheese
60ml Olive Oil
Butter
10 Slices of Mushrooms

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat Oven to 200 deg C.
2. Spread a thin layer of butter and Olive Oil on a baking pan
3. Slice several slits on Salmon Fillet, insert slices of Cheese in between and place in baking pan.
4. Line sliced Onions and Mushrooms on the surface of Fillet
5. Line sliced Cheese on surface Fillet, be sure to cover most of the Fillet.
6. Toss into Oven and bake for 15 to 20mins.
7. Serve warm with Potato Salad or Rice

Baked Rice

INGREDIENTS

½ Cup of Long Grain Rice
½ Large Onion
5 Slices of Chaddar Cheese
60ml Olive Oil
Butter
50g Salami or Bacon
1 Large Tomato

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat Oven to 200 deg C
2. Cook rice, leave it to cool after cooking.
3. Spread a thin layer of butter and Olive Oil on a baking pan.
4. Slice Large Onion, Tomato and Cheese
5. Place rice at bottom of baking pan.
6. Line Cheese over rice.
7. Cover the Cheese with Onions, Tomatoes and Salami
8. Toss into Oven and bake for 15 to 20 mins.

Stir fried Beef chunks

INGREDIENTS

200g of Beef chunks or casarole Beef
½ Carrot
½ Onion
Seasoning, ( Off the shelf products like, honey and pepper sauce or even BBQ sauce)
60ml Olive Oil

DIRECTIONS

1. Pour reasonable amount of Seasoning on Beef Chunks, toss well and leave in refrigerator for 30mins.
2. Pour Olive Oil onto frying pan, and a small amount of cubed Onion.
3. Fry until Brown, remove browned Onion and set aside.
4. Leaving the Olive Oil in the pan, toss seasoned Beef chunks and fry for 10 mins.
5. Remove Beef chunks and set aside
6. Toss carrots and remaining onions into frying pan, add more Oil if necessary
7. Once onions start to brown, toss in Beef chunks, fry for 10mins and cover the frying pan with a lid, simmer for 5 mins.
8. Serve with browned Onion from step 3 and garnish as desired.

Meat Balls with Cheese Filling

INGREDIENTS

200g minced meat (Pork, Beef or Mutton)
Small cubes of Cheese
Seasoning, ( Off the shelf products like, honey and pepper sauce or even BBQ sauce)
Butter

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat Oven to 200 deg C
2. Pour reasonable amount of Seasoning on minced meat, toss well with pepper and leave in refrigerator for 30mins.
3. Remove minced meat after 30mins, place a hand full of minced meat on hand, flatten it like a pizza and place small chunks of Cheese in center.
4. Next fold the sides and cup tightly with both hands to make ball, also to ensure minced meat don’t fall apart while baking.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 till minced meat is used up.
6. Apply thin layer of Butter on Baking Pan.
7. Place Meat Balls on Baking pan.
8. Toss into Oven and bake for 15mins -25mins (depending on various meats).
9. Serve with your favourite Pasta, or baked rice, or potato salad.

today's the last day before i get stuck in camp for a whole 2 weeks cos i have a new batch of recruits coming in, and i have to stay with them. blurgh. the things i do for you and our country! waste my weekends away! so anyways i took my camera out for a spin and esther came too. there's this secret place i go to, if i need some air. i took some really cool pictures, and yea u might find it familiar. okay its actually the entrance to the CTE tunnel along orchard. there's this place where u can sit and watch cars go by below. its amazing. but we got chased away by the mat police man after awhile. yay to the police force! hi. the highlight of my weekend. was spent. baking. brownies. not my first time, i've been a pro at baking. but this time i used esther's superior baking skills, and we came up with ultra solid damn good brownies, and weird looking but awesome tasting cupcakes that would most prob own your mother's. Pictures include esther, me and the classic mark moment. and the end product of one thousand million hours of hardwork.

been a long time since i went to see people play. here's pictures of Rock On Myanmar. i think it was organized by VJC to raise funds for the Myanmar thing. Pretty good effort i must say. and the band lineup was pretty good i guess so were the VJ girls. hoho. so enjoy them pics, none with VJ girls though. tsk pervert. oh and the pics were taken with a new lens. blew 200bucks on it. so i hope its good. why we should love the infantry

We walk. A lot. And we only walk under the cover of darkness through forests, up hills and across rivers till daybreak.

Soldiers in the infantry lead a hard life. Sure, there may be harder lives led by other units in the Army. But here I am, as an infantryman, going to tell you about the toils and hardship of life as one of us.

We rely on our feet, the weapon carried in our hands and each other to win. That is about everything that the infantryman has and almost as important. We depend on our legs. If we don't have them, or if they're not in the working condition, we cannot think about completing our mission successfully; we cannot move.

Because we are so vulnerable, with no armor-skin protection, we are just like any human being, composed of flesh and blood. Our only protection is stealth by darkness and cover. We start our missions in the night and strike our enemies at dawn first light.

The movement phase is often long and arduous. It is done in the dead of the night, in the forest, silently and continuously, into enemy territory. Soldiers laden with battle-survival essential equiptment have to walk kilometres of vegetated and undulating terrain in order to reach their objective. Some need to carry machine guns, anti-tank missiles, and specialized equipment weighing up to 20kg, on top of their standard load.

Commanders, on the other hand, need to lead their forces the way to the objective, with the help of a map and compass, and the awareness that a wrong decision or judgment in terrain could result in longer distance covered, or even not reaching the objective, which affects the morale of his troops, mission timings, and ultimately, mission success.

Sometimes, there are streams and water bodies to be negotiated; a soldier needs to be comfortable with his waterlogged boots and tolerate it for the rest of the mission. There are many uncertainties as there may not be just one river or one knoll. The strain of natural elements cause ruptured blisters, abrasions rubbed raw to the flesh and the notorious foot-rot. In addition, the soldier needs to constantly fight fatigue and sleepiness that is screaming inside of his body to stop. It is a painful process that a soldier needs to inoculate it in him as something normal and a second nature.

There is already so much that is wearing out the soldier's mind and body, let alone the enemy element that is constantly trying to disrupt the forces all the way into his territory. They come in the form of artillery shelling, enemy foot patrols and vehicular patrols. And soldiers need to be on alert and execute drills to evade or react to these situations to stay alive. Men will be wounded and killed, there will be attrition of forces and this is the time that separates leaders from ordinary men; leaders step out to control and manage the chaos.

By the time he reaches the form-up site, where the attack is launched from, he'll be extremely drained. More precisely, the soldier is in no condition for a proper fight. To stay all fresh and ready before a battle is an unrealistic expectation. He'll be worn-out to some extent, wounded in some way or another, and what it seemed was a movement phase was already a hard-fought battle. All he has left is his mental depths and his platoon mates to draw strength from, to prepare himself for the attack phase. He has to be committed, focused, disciplined and have a tremendous amount of fighting spirit in him if he wants to fight a decent battle and come out alive.

This process goes on for days.

When trying to stay alive, is already a tough challenge.

Finally! pictures of the recent MCR gig. it wasn't spectecular but it was great music nonetheless. Pictures aren't that great cos we went late and were pretty much behind. didn't or couldn't mosh cos hayley was there and so was my camera. cannot risk damaging any of those 2. MCR amazed me by playing a few of their songs from the old album, loved helena to bits. the new album's pretty much popish, which at some point of them is a great turn off. but oh well. had fun anyways.

A few random pictures of Cradle who were playing at the esplanade. Born and bred locally, the band consists of Man Toyak as lead singer, Addy Rasidi as lead guitarist, Fazli as drummer & Faizal as bassist. These guys have tons of experience and they do play good music. Cradle's a malay rock band that's been playing for a long time. i'm not a fan, but i do applaude their talents.
